Transportation Policy

Welsh Valley Athletic Transportation Policy (click to download form)

Below you will find our Athletics’ Transportation Policy for the 2013/14 athletic seasons.  Please review the policy and contact Megan Kiczek, athletic director, if you have further questions.

AWAY Athletic Contests:

  • All student athletes are expected to travel both to and from away athletic contests on the assigned school bus with their team.  We encourage parents/guardians to make prior arrangements and schedule accordingly to help facilitate this expectation.

  • If circumstances arise where a student athlete must leave the away contest early and/or be picked up by a parent/guardian at the finish of the away contest; a face-to-face encounter should take place between you, the parent/guardian, and the designated team coach before the student athlete will be released to you.

  • If someone other than you, the parent/guardian, will be picking up your student athlete from an away contest a written permission note, signed by you, must be received by the designated coach.  Please complete the attached form and provide it to the coach prior to the scheduled contest.

HOME Athletic Contests & Practice:

  • All student athletes are expected to depart campus following a home contest or practice by 5:30p.m.
  • If a student athlete is NOT utilizing the district 5:30 p.m. late bus, their arranged transportation home must be on campus prior to 5:30 p.m.  If the arranged transportation is not present at 5:30 p.m. the assigned athletic coach is to direct the student athlete to take the appropriate district late bus home.

These policies are in place to provide a clear and uniform expectation for each student athlete.  Our first priority is the safety of the student athletes; this includes being accountable for each member of our athletic teams during away contests and while on the Welsh Valley campus.  Secondly, traveling on the team bus both to and from away athletic contests can foster an important aspect of interscholastic athletics; the relationships and bonds created both on the athletic field and subsequent bus rides during the course of a season with one’s peers and coaching staff.

Thank you in advance for your support and adherence to the above policies.

Respectfully,

Megan Kiczek

Hydration Test & Weight Letter

Hydration Test & Weight Certification (click to access letter)

Welsh Valley Wrestling Parents,

As the 2013-2014 wrestling season begins, I wanted to inform you about the team hydration test and weight certification.  These two tests are required by the PIAA for all wrestlers in both middle and high school, and will be administered on   DECEMBER 9th at 2:30pm.

The weight certification is completed to certify a wrestler at the minimum safe weight for him/her to wrestle under PIAA guidelines.  Before a wrestler can be certified, he/she must pass a hydration test.

The hydration test consists of testing a small urine sample from each wrestler.  The test looks for an acceptable PH balance that shows that a wrestler is properly hydrated at the time of his weight certification.  An athletic trainer who is certified to administer the test and interpret the data will conduct the exams.  They are done to make sure that a wrestler has not dangerously dehydrated himself/herself, so he/she can be certified at a lower weight.  The test only looks at the PH balance of the urine.  There will be no testing for drugs, alcohol, or any other substance.  The testing will take place on Harriton’s campus, and the sample will immediately be disposed of on site.

For weight certification, the wrestler will be weighed, and then have three areas of the body measured for fat.  The three sample areas are; the triceps, the shoulder blade area, and lower stomach.  The three measurements, along with the wrestlers weight and age are entered into a computer program that will calculate the wrestlers lowest certifiable weight.  The information is entered into the program by the trainer, and the coach may not change it.

Please sign this form allowing your child to take part in these two (2) tests.  If you are unsure and have questions, please email Coach Barone at baroner@lmsd.org.  The wrestling team will then stay at Harriton for practice and return around 5 PM to Welsh Valley in time for the late buses.

Failure to provide permission for these tests will result in your child being ineligible to participate in PIAA wrestling.

Thank you,

Coach Barone                                    Athletic Director:  Megan Kiczek
