Fall Sports Important Information & Dates

Welcome back Welsh Valley Dragons! I hope that you enjoyed your summer vacation and are excited for a fun and successful school year and sports season.

Here are a few important details and dates to know before the season begins:

1) Physical Forms must be completed by anyone interested in participating in a fall sport.  You can download the form here.  A physical can be performed at various locations including but not limited to: your normal physician or at a Minute-Clinic.  Physical forms are due on Monday, September 9th.

2) Fall Sports Fair will be held on Wednesday, September 4th for all interested 7th & 8th grade athletes during 10th period.

3) Fall Sports will begin tryouts on Wednesday, September 11th after school from 3:30-5:30.  Any interested athlete must have turned in a physical form prior to tryouts.

Meet Coach Brockman

Coach Tim Brockman has been the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls tennis coach for nine seasons. Coach Brockman is a 6th, 7th and 8th grade Technology Education teacher at Welsh Valley. Coach Brockman attended Bucknell and California University of Pennsylvania.  Coach Brockman enjoys playing tennis, soccer, baseball, Ultimate Frisbee, snow and water skiing.  He is most proud of being selected as one of two high school students in his region to play with former #1 tennis players in the world in a charity doubles tournament.  Coach Brockman also enjoys boating.

Meet Coach Kelly

Coach Kirsten Kelly is a 7th and 8th grade Field Hockey Coach and 8th grade Softball Coach.  Coach Kelly is an assistant Pre-school teacher in Haverford Township, helps with the programming for the Haverford Recreation, and is a substitute in Lower Merion School District. Coach Kelly graduated from West Chester University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science Degree and a Health and Physical Education teaching certificate.  Coach Kelly played field hockey, basketball and softball in high school.  Her favorite coaching memory was having her 7th grade field hockey team score 15 seconds into the game of their first game of the season. She takes pride in this accomplishment due to the fact that many of the girls never played before and the team finished the season with an undefeated record.  In Coach Kelly’s free time she volunteers for Haverford Recreation coaching field hockey and lacrosse for 7th and 8th grade girls.  She also plays for an all-women’s team in the amateur softball league in Delaware County.  Coach Kelly looks forward to having another amazing season at Welsh Valley!

Meet Coach Porter

Coach Darlene Porter is a Volleyball and Track and Field coach at Welsh Valley MS.  Coach Porter has previously coached at Brookside Middle School in Sarasota, FL and Manteo Middle School in Manteo, NC.  Coach Porter also has 14 years of experience coaching Track and Field.   Coach Porter is a 6th grade Science and Writing teacher, and is the Science Curriculum Coordinator for WVMS.  Coach Porter graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Elementary Education and earned her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from The University of Florida.

As a high school athlete Coach Porter was an Indiana State Champion All-Around Gymnast and was a Nationally Ranked Equestrian Equitation Rider.  As a young adult athlete, she studied and competed in Goju Ryu Karate.   Coach Porter continues to compete in 5K, 10K, Trail Runs, and ½ marathons.  She also enjoys swimming, hiking, biking, kayaking, SCUBA diving and reading.

Coach Porter’s proudest moments have been watching her own children compete and love sports.  Her daughter Sarah swam at the National level for the Sarasota Sharks, Marshall University, and now continues to coach at the college and high school level in Spartanburg, SC.  Her son Alex competed in hockey, football, pole-vaulting, and golf.  He now continues to coach junior golfers in Jacksonville, FL.

Meet Coach Anderson

Lindsay Anderson is a 7th and 8th grade Girls’ Volleyball coach. Coach Anderson is a Behavior Specialist Consultant.    Coach Anderson earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her Master’s degree in School Counseling from New York University.   Coach Anderson enjoys playing beach volleyball, hiking and doing yoga.  Coach Anderson favorite sports memory is traveling to Disney World to play in a volleyball tournament during her senior year of high school.  Coach Anderson is looking forward to another fun and exciting fall volleyball season!
